Commercial real estate on the rise

March 28, 2008 - 11:26 pm - Posted by Sherri R

While most of the bad news has been around the housing market it appears that commercial real estate is alive and well in our area. The expansion of businesses, hotels, and shopping centers continues to grow. In fact just about 20 minutes from where we live there is a new retail/living area going up. The concept is that build condos and apartments on the top 4 floors and the main floor are local shops and specialty stores. It is a great looking community and most of what anyone could need is right there within walking distance.

Conservative John Fleming for congress

March 28, 2008 - 12:40 pm - Posted by Sherri R

John Fleming for congress

The 2008 election year will be one of the most historic in our time. With the Democratic party still in a dogfight over who their nominee will be the Republican party is staying the course and could benefit from all the mud slinging that is taken place. There are also many local and state positions that are up for grabs. And with several Congressional positions up for re-election the house and senate could be reshaped for 2009 and beyond. One of those races involves Dr John Fleming a conservative running in the 4th Congressional District in Louisiana. We had a chance to review his positions on many topics such as Controlling Illegal Immigration, Cutting Spending, Lowering Taxes, Defeating Terrorism, Protecting Right to Life, and Traditional Values.

Being a conservative and advocate for small business I am in favor of lessing the tax burden on individuals and businesses. Instead of increasing the size of government and creating more programs we need to allow the capitalism to flourish. John Fleming comes from a background as a small business owner and a physician so he knows intimately the struggle of business and the individual. He is not a professional politician that is looking to gain a power position. He has some great videos that outline his positions and what he plans to do about such as issues as fair tax, right to life, and national defense and security. Dr. Fleming went into the Navy after completing medical school and his stance is take a hard line on those that threaten this country and more importantly stand behind and support our troops as that protect our freedom. Electing individuals like John Fleming for congress can only help to strengthen our country in this time of uncertainty. We need leaders in congress who are not afraid to fight for the people and not just for a select few of individuals and interest groups.

Protecting your investment against bugs

March 27, 2008 - 4:06 pm - Posted by Sherri R

pest control

We recently read a report that there are millions of homes each year that are endangered by various termites, insects, and pests. These little bugs can build up over time as they build their colonies and the path to your home becomes easier. Many people will try and treat on their with over the counter products that can be found at the local hardware store. This can be effective but if the insects are inside the wood or foundation you will need to consult with a professional like Pest Control Dallas experts at ARPT. They also provide Pest Control Fort Worth in Tarrant and Dallas county. When we lived in Texas we used to have battle carpenter ants. While ants typically do not sound that harmful, species like the carpenter ant can get into the woodwork and create major damage to your home and it’s structure.

carpenter antsThey get their name because they prefer to create their colonies inside wood, old trees and buries lumber. They do not actually eat the wood , but chew off small pieces that can create a huge hole or cavity in the structure. You can see signs of carpenter ants because their debris often look like sawdust. As they build their colony which can take months they create channels and other large areas that expand in length. This is what weakens the structure of the home or your trees and make them unsafe.  So if you are suspicious of carpenter ants you will want to consult Dallas Pest control experts like the ones at All-rid Pest and termite control to come out and assess the situation.

Get your free credit reports in 2008

March 23, 2008 - 4:34 pm - Posted by Sherri R

This year like in many years past credit cards play a major role in holiday shopping. while they are a great convenience they can be quite problematic if you over spend and then are unable to pay off the balance. Remember to always read the fine print on the amount of grace period days and when your bank actually starts to count interest. There are Secured Credit Cards that use a balance in your account or some other collateral to help you maintain your balance. Some provide 20-25 days, but I have seen others as little as 15 days. This means that you will start to accrue and pay interest before you even receive your statement, even if you intend to pay the balance in full. There are few things that you need to know about your credit report and how to obtain your Free Credit Report to help you get the best rate you can.

Here are few myths to understand when requesting your and reading your credit report.

Credit Bureaus are empowered with some kind of governmental authority. Credit bureaus have no legal authority at all, they are simply private companies who are in the business of selling credit information.

The credit bureaus are required by law to keep derogatory items on your credit report for 7 to 10 years: There is no law that the credit bureaus report anything on you at all. Just the opposite is true!Credit bureaus are required by law to automatically remove all derogatory items older than 7 years or in the case of a bankruptcy, 10 years.

Inquiries are not derogatory and will not affect your credit standing. Anything that erodes your financial credibility is damaging to your credit standing. In the case of inquiries, one or two is not too bad, but any more than that and they begin to tell a story of their own. Any prospective credit grantor will look at your credit report and think that you are desperate for credit.

If you find yourself in a crunch it is always good to call the bank, and ask them for some added time. They know the cost of having to get new customers and will usually be accommodating to reasonable requests. To catch up the latest credit card news you can find answers and guidance to Compare Credit Cards and find the one that matches your individual needs. They provide a useful site to provide credit card advice and resources for those who love to use the plastic.

Marketing hype can create more customers

March 23, 2008 - 3:41 pm - Posted by Sherri R

I remember when I was growing and Madonna came out on stage at one of her concerts in appeared to be lingerie. It caused such a stir that there were protests around some of her events that she had scheduled later that year. As we all know it served the purpose that it was supposed too in that it created a buzz about her concert and created a higher demand for tickets. This is seen today with many artists that will do something provocative just in time to launch their new movie, book, or concert. I often wonder how far in advance that the publicity machine kicks into gear to start creating the buzz around a new movie or CD being released.

Thermage to improve your skin

March 21, 2008 - 10:47 pm - Posted by Sherri R

Cosmetic medicine which involves the alteration of a persons face has grown into a multi-billion dollar business. The market for dermal fillers and other devices used in cosmetic medicine will total over $15 Billion. Procedures that involve such surgeries as face lifts and liposuction fell by 5% between 2000 and 2005. Since the recent decision from the FDA to allow the use of silicon implants will likely impact the market and use of plastic surgery.

There are many ways to enhance your appearance. With all the new procedures and products there are more options to consider. When looking to make a change in your outward appearance you need to weigh all the pros and cons. For skin enhancements for both men and women there is a relatively new procedure called thermage which is the first non-invasive treatment that helps to deliver tighter skin and better collagen health through RF (radio frequency technology). For women breast augmentation has been available for years. Some have gotten the procedure to increase their bust size while there are those that have needed a breast reduction for health reasons. The key is to have a consult with your plastic surgery and set the expectations up front. While the surgery will change your appearance it may not meet your idea figure.

Are you ready to change your look

March 21, 2008 - 10:30 pm - Posted by Sherri R

There are numerous procedures available today to enhance your looks. There are elective surgeries like breast enhancements to injectable solutions to decrease wrinkles or eyelid lift surgery that will give you a younger more appealing lure. There is a growing trend for men to have some type of plastic surgery done. Primarily those that are getting back into the dating scene after a divorce and looking to get rid of those love handles. There are certain risks with any surgery and this is why when looking for cosmetic surgeons you should always check to see their board qualifications and whether or not they belong to any professional associations.

When considering any type of plastic surgery you should always check their credentials and make sure that they are board certified in the field that they are working in. This can be done through local professional associations like the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. These large professional groups have a code of ethics and standards that Dr.’s must adhere to be part of the organization and can help patients when questions arise. With the rise in little boutique shops you would be surprised who is behind the scalpel.

Top plastic surgery requests

March 21, 2008 - 10:25 pm - Posted by Sherri R

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), has stated that the five fastest-growing cosmetic surgeries are procedures done to remove the excess skin. Approximately 68,000 “body contouring” procedures were performed last year, up 22% since last year. This amounts to over $700 million dollars in surgeon fees. This trend may be somewhat alarming in that people are finding a quick fix to shed unwanted pounds instead of changing their habits. There are other facial enhancements like revision rhinoplasty nose job repair that are in the top 10 as well.

This is particularly true in places like LA or Las Vegas where looks are everything and are part of persons livelihood.  In the land of endless entertainment image is everything. While the lifestyle is not typical across America, you will see some of the most beautifully sculpted bodies anywhere. They are in essence creating an illusion for their customers. The flashing lights, the beautiful show girls, and the ringing of the slot machines create the illusion that you are in a whole other world.

Who is George Lindemann

March 21, 2008 - 10:19 pm - Posted by Sherri R

A great way to expand your kids horizons is to take them to the local art museum. I know that this may not sound like fun to most kids, but today there are so many unique exhibits that have a kids focus they actually really enjoy the day long adventure. We recently went to see a dinasour exhibit at our local museum and our kids loved it. They also got a chance to see some different paintings in a different part of the museum and they actually came home and started creating their own masterpieces. If you can inspire your children to do more and creative things then you are well ahead of the curve.

Many people do not realize that most if not all museums are non-profit and rely on donors and local business people to reside on their boards. One of those business people is George Lindemann Jr donates their time and money to causes within their community. It is local business people like Mr. Lindemann who donate their time and resources to local causes and this should inspire us all to do our part.

A new class of watches

March 19, 2008 - 11:14 pm - Posted by Sherri R

classy watch

Having a watch is an essential part of my wardrobe and I almost feel lost when I leave the house without it. If you are used to wearing a watch there are certain mannerisms that you develop, or at least I do, that become quite interesting when the watch is not there. I do not have a real high end watch like the Patek Aquanaut which I just found online. I was unaware of this maker of fine watches and what exactly quality time pieces look like. A new class of wrist watch to me and maybe many of those that read my blog. They have a wide selection of mens watches for both business and casual.

What is going on with celebrity stars

March 19, 2008 - 8:58 pm - Posted by Sherri R

There are many types of addictions that can be harmful to people not only physically, but mentally as well. Addictions to drugs, alcohol, sex, and even the internet. In the youth of America this has been a growing trend with more and more kids on the internet and finding easier access to illegal substances. What starts out as a small joy ride can lead to life changing events and change their course of life. The problem is that most people do not realize that they have a problem until some life altering event happens and by then the harm has been done. With more younger stars getting themselves caught up in drug and alcohol trouble they are setting a standard that younger generations will follow. There are several alcohol rehabs centers that you are seeing pop up as the celebrities seem to fall into trouble on a regular basis.

Moving into our new home and finding new furniture

March 19, 2008 - 6:38 pm - Posted by Sherri R

We have recently moved into our new home and one of our first goals was to find some new furnishings for our two youngest kids. It was time to upgrade the crib bedding to a more grown up bed for our youngest. We were looking for a bed that she could grow into and provided functionality so that if she had friends sleep over they would have some where to sleep.  We were able to find this white bunk bed that provided a big girls bed with a place where her friends could have a sleep over. We got her new kids bedding that featured Disneys newest hit Hannah Montana. We got her some of the matching accessories and hew new room is a place that she loves to spend time in and bring her friends over to play and just giggle. With our new home it gave us more space and larger rooms so that the kids could actually play and have a place to hang out with their friends aside from the family room. It is nice to know that they can entertain their friends and the kids love to come over.

For our son it was more simple. He needed a room where he could play his Xbox and bring his friends over to think of ways to irritate the girls.  Although he does get along with his younger sister they always want to play tricks on each others friends and this does create some interesting moments in our home. Like the time that our son and one of his friends hid under our daughters bed and then when her friend came over they waited a few minutes and then came out and you would have thought they chopped their arm off. The screaming and panic to get downstairs was quite the ordeal. This is why we have now allowed them to put locks on their doors to help keep some of their privacy. I can recommend that when you are looking for kids furniture and kids gifts you can find a great selection.

Finding Home insurance online

March 19, 2008 - 6:16 pm - Posted by Sherri R

home insurance quotes

Americans today have built up a staggering amount of debt. Part of the reason is that banks and lending companies have been more lenient in their lending practices and have helped people to extend their debt past their limits. This was magnified by the subprime lending market for new home owners and those with low credit who refinanced their homes. The industry got over their heads offering low adjustable rate mortgages to higher risk clients, and when those rates started to adjust the consumer was unable to keep up with their payments. Now many banks and lenders who played in this market are feeling the financial pressures from the public and the government. Now today you see more ads for debt relief than in the past offering debt consolidation services of some sort. As the market continues to soften you must make sure that whether you are buying or selling you explore all your options.

With the latest fed rates cuts buying a new home should get a little easier as mortgage rates will eventually follow. Buying a new home will require good timing and research. There are a few costs that you must be ready to account such as closing costs, moving costs and purchasing home insurance to protect your new purchase. If you are looking for home insurance quotes then try insurelog.com where you can research several providers in a matter of minutes and get free quotes from the comfort of your home. Plus the site offers some great articles for those that are looking to buy a new home and whether this is your first home or fifth home they have some great insight to help anyone.

interesting St. Patricks day parade

March 16, 2008 - 12:14 am - Posted by Sherri R

We went to a local St. Patrick’s Day parade and one of the groups that was marching was advocating legal medical use of marijuana. What was very interesting was the group that was directly behind them was from a local drug treatment facility that was promoting “drugs not hugs” on their signs. I am not sure if this was meant to be in this order, but I am sure that the two groups had some interesting comments about one another. Of course the group advocating legalizing marijuana were giving out chocolate candy and the other group was just handing out flyers and necklaces. It was a bizarre moment in the parade which consisted of mostly your standard parade floats for the local politicians and hot rod clubs.

how do you make your coffee

March 15, 2008 - 11:53 pm - Posted by Sherri R

I was standing in my local coffee shop and they had on special semi-automatic coffee makers that had a espresso option for around $300. It was a stainless steel unit that would be able to make up to shots at one time and steam the milk. The other one that they had right next to it was a fully automatic unit that was $900. I could not understand how reducing one step was worth the additional $600. There are many people that make their coffee the old fashioned way one cup at a time and this has not affected the society in which we live.
