Automating your business

March 6, 2010 - 11:02 pm - Posted by admin

I was traveling through a remote part of Idaho and had to stop off for lunch in a small town. The food was great and the service was even better. The special was a venison burger with an organic salad made with local produce. In most big cities they would charge you quite a bit for this specialty type meat, but here the cost was only $7.95 with a drink. The dessert was either coconut cream pie or a fried Oreo sundae. So while it was not upscale at least it was a change of pace. They still used the old hand written receipts and did not have a receipt printer that was attached to their credit card machine to help automate the process a little bit. So when I turned in my expenses for that trip I had the hand written receipt for what look like a gourmet meal minus the Oreo sundae.

Creating jobs in 2010

January 20, 2010 - 3:40 am - Posted by admin

For those that have been watching the evolution of the Stimulus package that is slowly making its way through the House and Senate you may be asking how will this help the economy and when. This will increase jobs philadelphia and other cities will have to offer. I am no economic guru but from what I have read and heard through the various media outlets jobs will be created. There will be a lot of money spent on infrastructure so that companies that make heavy equipment, electronics, and durable goods. One of the central ideas is that if we get Americans back to work in the building of roads, buildings, and homes in America that will lead to an increased spending which will then turn into more jobs for those that run and operate retails businesses.

Keeping track of your fleet

January 17, 2010 - 4:59 pm - Posted by admin

In the world of technology one service that has come a long way is GPS tracking for vehicles. Many large companies use these automation systems to keep track of their fleet of cars and trucks to monitor delivery times, road conditions, and safety alerts. With the  tracking devices loaded on many delivery and construction trucks they can help monitor road speed, location, and service required. These devices have been thought of as big brother since the company can monitor the location of there vehicles and drivers at all times. This not only helps to improve productivity , but more importantly safety. These devices can send alerts to the office if a vehicle is traveling above the determined speed limit and dispatch can send out a message to  the driver to slow down to help increase safety.

Many of these devices have also helped local and national businesses improve their service and delivery because they know exactly where a package is at all times. This is how you are able to get real time stats on your package through some of the large delivery companies. These devices can also help deter theft since the thief will be unable to get far in the vehicle thanks to the satellite tracking device. They are run by software that is kept at the dispatch center to help control the flow and location of all the vehicles. Plus they can help track maintenance and service with your fleet to help avoid costly repairs.

Criminal justice degree

January 12, 2010 - 5:42 am - Posted by admin

This past year has gotten many people thinking about their career choice and just how stable and safe their current jobs are. I grew up with a couple of guys who went to school to get their criminal justice degree and three of them entered law enforcement and one went on to obtain their law degree. The need for qualified and committed police officers is on the rise as states and cities are looking to fill gaps that have been caused by lack of budget. As the new year progresses and the economy rebounds many of those positions that have been left vacant will now need to be filled. If you are looking to change careers then you can find out how to obtain your criminal justice degrees online through colleges like Northwestern College. They offer the ability to obtain your Associate Degree online and network with working professionals in the legal system and law enforcement.

Increasing your blog traffic in 2010

January 10, 2010 - 2:27 pm - Posted by admin

Many blog owners would love to have more traffic and readers visit their site. If you search the web you will find thousands of offers to help get more website traffic to your site or blog in as little as 24 hours. Some of these are short term fixes and they use what is called pop under traffic which is where your site is shown to individuals after they leave a particular site. You can request the services of a business web directory expert to help you understand that will work and provide long term results to help get your site noticed. Others will submit your sites to FFA or link farm sites which have very little traffic generation capabilities and can even hurt your search engine placement.

BLog SEOOne very valuable way that we have found to help increase traffic, search engine position and back links is leveraging the link building capabilities of web directories with optimized keyword searches that are picked up by the major search engines. Since most directories can be carried out over 1000’s of sources, building in the keyword, and backlinks to the client helps to maximize this channel and achieve faster results for their clients. Imagine having our site rise to the first page results on search engines in as little as 3 weeks. This type of recognition is usually only attainable through some very serious marketing.

Senate passes bill

December 24, 2009 - 3:47 pm - Posted by admin

With all the talk about health care reform there has been little talk about how this may impact research for new drugs. What I mean by this is that if you look across the health care industry most of the funding for new drugs to fight disease from cancer to heart disease is supported through pharmaceutical companies. Drugs like CONCERTA Adult ADHD Medication and late stage diabetes drugs are examples of pioneering research that are providing care for those that need it. It is an inevitable fact that pharmaceuticals companies spend billions each year in order to research and develop new treatments for diseases that impact peoples lives. And by limiting growth you are limiting the research dollars that could be used.

Keeping your car in good repair

November 24, 2009 - 7:47 pm - Posted by admin

repairI know with the economy in bad shape like it is, many of us are finding ways to save money. In many cases our vehicles pay the price for this and we don’t get those oil changes and tune ups like we should be doing. There are even companies that provide mechanical breakdown insurance that can help save money and provide assistance in the case of a breakdown. We must keep our cars running right and all of us should not save money with our automobiles. Go ahead and take the hit now and get your cars and trucks all the things they need to help them run right. Could you imagine if you drove an expensive utility vehicle and having to pay today’s gas prices?I know my next vehicle will be gas friendly and that should be the priority of most people searching for a new or used car. Just remember to go ahead and bite the bullet with auto repairs and keep your vehicle in shape; so you can have dependable transportation and that will be one less thing to worry about!

What the future holds in medicine

November 19, 2009 - 2:31 pm - Posted by admin

While having access to affordable health care is agreed upon by everyone the topic of who is going to pay for biomedical research if the government ultimately sets prices and forces companies to reduce their spending on R&D.

researchPeople may sometimes forget and take for granted the wonderful medicines and treatments that have been discovered and brought to market from the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. Biotech drugs are becoming needed as we try and more specifically target various disease states. As the debate grows and the public is made aware of the predicted impact of the health care bill hopefully there will be a meaningful debate where Americans are given a choice and health care does not become an entitlement.

Branding at trade shows

November 18, 2009 - 2:11 am - Posted by Sherri R

When we were first starting out online we started out like many Americans selling on various auction sites. We did ok selling odds and ends and used the online payment processors as our main source to collect and process payments. As we gained more exposure we started getting free credit card machine offers to help both our online and small retail business. While at first this looked like a great deal once you read the fine print the transaction costs started to add up. Plus most of these systems would charge a monthly processing fee after the first initial 30-60 day period. For a small business getting up and going every percentage point in sales expense can start to add up. As you start and grow your business it is essential to be able to take credit and debit cards as most people are paying in this form and it does reduce your bed debt fees as checks can be a drain on your bottom line.

There are many businesses that use local trade shows and through the use of simple banner stands can help gain brand awareness and gain new customers through a simple form of advertising. Trade shows and local conventions that are part of your target market can be a very economical way to grow your business and help you promote your online business while developing additional contacts through other companies at the show.

Going green with your exit sign

November 6, 2009 - 12:48 am - Posted by Sherri R

Most of today’s consumers feel good when they buy a product with the Energy Star label on it. It’s a symbol we have grown to trust and we know we are using less energy with all the products that do display the Energy Star label. Most exit signs that are using less energy might not seem like that big of a deal, but when you imagine every business, school, or public building using less energy for all the exit signs they have throughout their buildings; it really begins to add up. Just make sure you’re doing your part to save more energy in your household and we can all continue to enjoy this lifestyle we have come accustomed to!

developing leaders

October 30, 2009 - 11:08 am - Posted by Sherri R

Every company in America is looking for ways to develop leaders within their organization so that those people can not only take on additional responsibilities, but become the future leaders of the organization. There are multiple ways in which this can be done either through internal training departments, universities, or colleges. At Gonzaga online they offer Masters in organizational development that can help those looking to increase their organizational development skills but also organizational leadership. Gonzaga offers degrees in Organizational Leadership which can offer a broader perspective on being a leader rather than than the structural and tactical nature of what many people look for in these career fields.

Developing leaders can be a great advantage for any organization because you are using the resources that you already have and those employees already understand the culture and inner working of the company to help bring alignment to strategic priorities.

What I saw on TV

October 25, 2009 - 10:49 pm - Posted by Sherri R

As I was traveling the other week I was happen to see a commercial for a law firm that was seeking those that had been diagnosed with malignant Mesothelioma. I have seen these ads in the past and am still amazed that this unfortunate situation for those that have been impacted by the disease still is in the news. I like many have come to understand those that are impacted by this form of cancer contracted it through old plants and warehouses where they worked unprotected around asbestos. Apparently this is not the single contributor to those that have been afflicted with this type of cancer yet it is still happening.

Finding a lawyer

July 3, 2009 - 12:44 am - Posted by Sherri R

If you have ever been confronted with a potential health risk that may have been caused by a company or product that may have been unsafe in the first place you are looking to find a lawyer that may be able to help you in your case. Such help exists at mesothelioma.net where you can find Mesothelioma lawyers and answers around some of the legal questions and what you can expect if you pursue legal action. In most cases in liability cases they are filed under a class action lawsuit to help strengthen the case and provide resolution to many individuals. This process can be less stressful and allow the individual to focus on their treatment and let the experts focus on the legal battles.

A new class of weight loss pill

May 22, 2009 - 1:20 pm - Posted by Sherri R

Because there are so many different diet pills I am always on the look out for good reviews and recommendations to help pass along to our readers. I was just checking out a liporexall review that was pretty interesting. They claims that this product contains over 9 patented ingredients two of which are Infinergy™ DiCaffeine Malate with Advantra-Z™ Synephrine that have been shown to provide the same efficacy of ephedra without the harmful side effects. It also combines a few other products in one pill that helps to block the absorption of carbohydrates and speed up your metabolism to burn off more fat. While I cannot personally vouch for this product it is reviews like these that you should consider if you are going to add a diet supplement to your regular exercise routine.

Meeting in Las vegas

May 20, 2009 - 12:49 am - Posted by Sherri R

We recently held a meeting in Las Vegas and had the opportunity to stay at the Belagio. What a beautiful facility and all the amenities are there that could keep you inside all day. There are so many great Las Vegas hotels to choose from and the real dilemma is to decide on where to stay. For meeting planners the job is to find a place that will cater to the business traveler and centrally located. Also you will want to look at the location of the hotel and whether you want your meeting located in downtown Las vegas or downtown.

Small business tools

March 15, 2009 - 11:54 am - Posted by Sherri R

We were recently vacationing at the Jersey shore and came across a great idea that could do very well back in the Northwest where we live. It was kids studio that held birthday events and other social functions that allowed the kids to dress up like their favorite rock stars. There was a stage that they got up on and sang to their favorite tunes and then there was a wardrobe and hair station to help them get prepped. They even had a great incentive on their receipt for you to return and let your friends know that gave 20% off your next visit and 20% off for for your friend. They had a nifty receipt printer that enabled them to customize their brand and your contact info so that you had a unique experience with their company and it helped us to remember this new location.

There are also many diet supplements that have been coming onto the market offering a simple solution to your weight problems. You can search the internet and find all sorts of various products and reviews to help you understand what each of these supplements works. We found several Lipovox reviews which is another diet supplement that has claims to be an effective weight loss pill, but I would recommend reading the reviews for yourself before making any purchases.
