Are you being watched at work

August 8, 2010 - 9:43 pm - Posted by admin

Once email became a huge form of communication both in business and personal space companies have been tracking what you send and receive via their networks if you are using work PC’s. The same thing holds true for that use a company vehicle that they have the right to monitor and track your usage. With a simple gps tracker that is installed in the vehicle employers can track the routes and location of their drivers or employees. The big thing to keep in mind here is that if you are doing what you are being paid to do then there should not be any worries. It is only those workers looking to game the system that the gps tracker will help identify.

Extreme fishing in Maui

August 7, 2010 - 7:45 am - Posted by admin

There are so many great things to do when you are in Maui. From relaxing on the beach to finding a Maui Fishing excursion to golf you will be amazed at the scenery and relaxation. There are various waterfalls throughout the island that can transport you to whole another world and help you forget about life for awhile You can also find some great snorkeling locations and the beaches are not as crowded as they are at The Big Island. By using the internet you find Free vacation rental listings that will give you the option to view and even list your vacation for rent.

Hawaii has to be the most beautiful place that I have had a chance to visit. The warm oceans, cool breeze in the evening make this a true magical paradise. We were able to stay in Maui in a vacation condo on our 10 year wedding anniversary and had a blast. Some friends that we went with explored the option of a Maui Charter Fishing company to take them out on a half day fishing trip. There are several so make sure you do your research before you go. I have read about and seen the reviews on one company called Extreme Fishing Maui where they make sure that you will have a successful trip by moitoring the weather and fishing patterns for you.

We walked the beaches, took the road to Hana, and went snorkeling with some large sea turtles. Our favorite part of the trip was the trip we took in a red convertible to Hana. The waterfalls and scenery were amazing. I will caution you though that the trip is made on a winding road that will actually go down to one lane. The locals go flying on this road and they will pass you, but remember that you are there to relax so just take your time and enjoy the scenery on the way. Plus there are some nice little villages on the way where you stop off and grab a refreshment and ask questions.

The newest operating system

June 18, 2010 - 10:49 pm - Posted by admin

So now move into the latest Windows product and we currently have Windows 7 on most new Asus computers that you will go buy now. Currently there isn’t a lot of positive talk about Vista and I believe it has to do with it being new and you have to do things in a new way to effectively use the new Windows 7. They are young people right now getting a chance to learn about computers for the first time and these people are learning via the Windows 7 way. So give them a few years to get use to things and when Windows releases its next new program to the market, many of these folks will be saying how Windows 7 was the best ever. I have had a chance to use the Windows Vista and for the most part you can figure it out pretty easily. They are some differences from it and earlier versions of windows. I think in time many of these new changes will be for the good and I believe the Windows 7 product will survive. Don’t be afraid to get Windows 7 on the next computer you decide to buy, because it is still a quality product that makes using the computer on the World Wide Web so much better!

Upgrading to Business IP

June 15, 2010 - 6:58 am - Posted by admin

The standard technology for many UK companies have been the integration of ISDN for business communications. When first introduced this technology offer exceptional speed and performance for networks and became the backbone of many business infrastructures. Business IP technology has started to catch up and now offers better overall system management at a lower capital cost to many small to medium sized businesses. Companies are using these solutions in order to help with their converged IP platforms to handle the growing demand. So some of the things that we researched that can help companies reduce some of the errors and technical downtime are listed below:

1. A companies failure to mover their legacy systems from their existing networks to IP solutions. Many companies are trying to bridge over the two technologies and you will find bottle necks at the blade server in order to accommodate that various speed and size requirements.
2. There is a failure to properly plan for and implement systems that will meet traffic requirements that will be needed by the company and your employees. Having a business phone maintenance plan in place in order to increase up time.
3. A neglect to bring in your IT admin and outside vendors to help design and develop new services that you place on your servers on top of the IP networks.
4. Lacking the vision and planning to have enough peak capacity to meet large spikes that may take place during normal operating processes.
5. Lastly and one of the most common issues for converged IP systems is the complete disregard for and development of open standards and protocols. Many vendors will have a solution, but they may be proprietary to their equipment and software and do not allow for simple upgrades and expansion.
Business IP also offers your sales team a way to work from home or abroad and still have the local presence of their home office telephone number because the technology allows you to plug into wherever there is a broadband connection. This can help small businesses look bigger while providing a more robust and cost effective solution.

Finding health care items online

May 7, 2010 - 7:00 am - Posted by admin

In the world of healthcare, patients are much more educated and have access to a wealth of data. Sometimes this can be good, but sometimes can be a frustration for Dr.’s. As patients come in already self diagnosed, or they read on some website about the medication the Dr. put them on might cause hair loss the Dr.’s need to be prepared. With some of the great technology available Dr.’s can have access to this information much easier than looking it up in a textbook.Dr.’s can synchronize online daily to have the most current information. With these new tools they can look up drug to drug interactions so if you are taking an over the counter hair loss product with your high blood pressure medicine they can tell if there are going to be any issues.

With ePocrates handheld and web solutions, Dr.’s can have access to over 3300 drug descriptions, adverse event profiles and manage care formularies. It can help them readily print out patient education on dosing, healthcare plan coverage and more. They can tell a patient that is on Metoprolol for their hypertension, where it is covered, and provide a description of the drug. Since most patients are use to taking the little red pill for their heart, and something different for their thyroid it can be confusing what pill is for what condition. With one-third of U.S. adults taking at least five medications or supplements every day , patients often struggle when asked to list their medications. Tools that can help providers easily check drug to drug interactions helps physicians to be able to go online or access their Palm Pilot and show the patient a picture of the pills they may be taking.

Protecting your data

April 24, 2010 - 9:12 am - Posted by admin

I was reading an interesting statistic that 1 in 10 hard drives fail each year due to hardware failure or even worse a virus. For most people backing up their precious photos and videos files becomes an after thought and only crosses your mind when you have an actual failure. I have been using portable hard drives and DVD backups just for photos and videos but those can also stop working so now what you thought was a good back up plan is now gone. With online backup services they offer a great selection of plans to help you easily back and protect your files. Most of the services are very minimal in cost and offer a simple automated backup solution that will run on your PC so that it is done automatically. Plus the nice part is that you have all your information easily indexed so you are not having to search through various DVD backup to find the files you lost.

Multichannel marketing

April 6, 2010 - 8:28 am - Posted by admin

Does your website have a ranking yet? Don’t worry if you still show a 0 with Google. It does take a little time to get them to rank your website. You can’t get good rankings over night and it does take time to move up the board. Keeping fresh content on your website and sticking to the topic of your overall subject will help you get better rankings with Google. Retailers are and website owners are looking for multichannel marketing ideas that can help them leverage all the latest and upcoming avenues to connect with their customers. Getting indexed in the top of your search terms is only one aspect of this. If you can move up their page rank scale; then you will do very well in Google’s search engine and all the other search engines that will soon index your website.
SEO or search engine optimization is something to consider after your website is a few months old. There are companies like Omniture that can help with SEO solutions and insight into retail business intelligence so that you can better understand where to spend your money. No need to worry about this now if you have a brand new website. You need to keep adding content at least 3 or 4 times a week, so the bots from search engines will know your website is being updated. After your website is about 6 to 8 months old and you have been updating the content on it regularly, you should have a ranking with Google then. If you still show a 0 after this time frame, it may be time to dive into the world of SEO. This can help move your website to the next level and make it more search engine friendly. I do think every new webmaster should add a RSS Feed to their site and this can do wonders for your page rank. This can also be helpful in obtaining emails for future communication with your customers. Then you could perform email analytics with the help of Omniture to understand click through and open rates. A good meta tag is also important for your search engine rankings and the way the bots index your website. It can be fun trying to play the Google Page Rank game and the goal is to get your number as high as possible. A page rank of 1 is not as good as a Google Page Rank of 5. Good luck with the rankings in the search engines and your ranks at Google.

Improve your customer contact

April 4, 2010 - 6:34 pm - Posted by admin

Companies are looking for ways to reach customers on the web and then be able to stay connected via the web and other means of marketing. Today those words are more true than ever as companies are seeing the success of MySpace, Facebook, Youtube , and more recently Twitter. They know that in order to appeal to the younger crowds they need to play where they play. Many are not turning to TV to get their information, but rather online blogs and social communities. With the recent announcement of Twitter receiving $35 million in venture capital funding it only strengthens the fact that the way people and companies interact with each other is changing.

You will see major organizations, news channels, and popular brands now setting up spaces on these high profiles social media sites. Smaller companies are turning to call center services in order to stay connected with their customers. By simply outsourcing to companies like Personalized Communications you can roll out a touch point for your customers in a matter of days instead of months to hire and train an internal force. Once they are able to gain permission to contact these new customers many companies are turning to answering service solutions in order to maximize their call center activities. They invite the interaction of their current customers to comment on new brands or features that they are launching into the market. Those in the news and media industry are looking for immediate feedback on their stories and you will see more social marketing tools developed to help them tailor their newscasts to the masses.

Expert SEO companies are being tasked with helping true marketing organizations to understand this new relationship that is building between consumers and companies and how best to use it to their advantage. Companies that are able to partner with a call center solution provider like Personalized Communications can expand their brand and have a positive impact on customer service. They also are able to take orders, schedule appointments, and provide emergency contact links in order to give your business a true 24/7 solution. This is critical in the age of instant forms of communications like Twitter and blogs.

Social Networking in 2010

March 7, 2010 - 12:03 am - Posted by Sherri R

The world of social networks has grown by leaps and bounds thanks in part to the pioneers that had the vision to connect people with similar interests and allow them to create their own communities. n the last 6 months and even more in 2010 more social networking sites are coming online. They attracted a lot of younger people some of the newer sites are creating niche sites that focus on business people, bloggers, those that love pets and more. They can be found throughout multiple listings and internet directory websites. What started out as a place for young high school kids and college kids to hang out online has become a very big business. This has created a need for more focused sites that can offer something unique to their members and offer a robust experience where they can share pictures, videos, and their daily happenings.

There are several hundred social networking sites that are now trying to find a niche. Some of the site are relatively new and have about 600 members as of this post. The great thing about new sites like this is that if you get in early you can make a name for yourself and grab some of the cool names that can be a huge benefit when the site takes off. Some are offering  cool features that they are launching called Shout Cast where you can be a DJ online or just listen to what others are mixing up. I do like how they show the latest members, videos, and blogs right on the front page so that everyone can get exposure and hopefully attract new friends. So why not get in early and join to  make a name for yourself in one of the greatest social experiments on the internet.

Do it yourself DVD creation

February 26, 2010 - 7:58 pm - Posted by admin

A few years we were presented with the opportunity to convert our 8mm and old VHS tapes to the standard DVD format. I was able to acquire the software, and hardware to start the CD DVD replication process. I found that there are several free magazines that target home based digital photographers who want to transform their pictures and movies to a digital format. What I was not told was the amount of time that this would actually take. Not only was it not as simple as putting in the old tape and then clicking convert there multiple conversion steps that had to take place in order to get the video to convert properly. To make matters more complicated there were three varieties of DVD’s available which some were compatible with current DVD players and other were not. Then there was the process of getting the video and audio to synch up which that was whole other tutorial. Needless to say I went through dozens of DVD’s and hours trying to make them work.

Thank goodness now there are professional companies who at the time we were looking to make the conversion were pretty expensive. Now that the technology has become more affordable and the medium that is used has come down in cost it makes sense for individuals and businesses to send these projects out to have them done. The typical turn around time is about 1-2 weeks depending on the size of the order and what you need done. Most of the companies will even offer DVD replication where they can master and burn thousands of disks so if you are trying to send out a training video it can be more cost effective.

Mobile marketing is creating a new buzz

January 9, 2010 - 10:27 pm - Posted by admin

Text messaging has become part of the standard communication tool for young adults. It is amazing to watch as people type on their cell phones and try and carry on a conversation. I love the commercial for a cell phone company that shows the girl and mom communicating in text lingo. My BFF Jill is a classic line and has introduced a new vocabulary to our kids. This is now a new avenue for club and bar owners to create and distribute new marketing messages. Through Mobile Marketing owners of clubs can contact their loyal customers to announce special events and guest appearances. It allows business owners a simple platform to communicate with their customers and even send them coupons to bring and use on their next visit.

mobile_marketingThis creates a new mode of marketing called  Text Mobile Coupon Marketing. Imagine you are at one of your favorite stores and you receive a text that they are having a customer appreciation night tomorrow from 5-8 PM. This is only open to those who bring in their text invitation. For business owners the possibilities are endless. By using mobile marketing you can create customer loyalty and build your brand by tailoring your offering to a specific age group or gender.

For restaurant owners this is a huge opportunity to announce open tables, specials on a customer favorite dish, or to announce happy hour. The owner can text a coupon to their patrons that the next 20 people can bring in the electronic coupon for 15 % off their bill. This can be done when business slows down and the owner is trying to fill the seats.

What the future holds in medicine

November 19, 2009 - 2:31 pm - Posted by admin

While having access to affordable health care is agreed upon by everyone the topic of who is going to pay for biomedical research if the government ultimately sets prices and forces companies to reduce their spending on R&D.

researchPeople may sometimes forget and take for granted the wonderful medicines and treatments that have been discovered and brought to market from the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. Biotech drugs are becoming needed as we try and more specifically target various disease states. As the debate grows and the public is made aware of the predicted impact of the health care bill hopefully there will be a meaningful debate where Americans are given a choice and health care does not become an entitlement.

get your iPhone accessories

October 5, 2009 - 9:53 am - Posted by Sherri R

iphone_coverOne of the best iphone accessories that I purchased for my new 3g model is a hard cover. Because of the black high gloss finish it could be very easy to scratch your new Iphone so I made the decision to purchase a cover right with the purchase. It has paid for itself over many time because you can see the various scratches and nicks on the cover that could have taken their toll on our phone. I have seen some of the iphones from friends that have not taken that extra step and their phone is starting to look a little ragged on the back cover. So our recommendation for a great iPhone accessory is to invest in a cover immediately.

New developments in software

July 31, 2009 - 10:28 am - Posted by Sherri R

The world of online social media continues to grow at a rapid pace and there are now several key players that are trying to stay ahead of the curve and anticipate the next new software development opportunity. Who would have thought that by sharing 140 character conversations on the web would launch a new way in which we communicate . Texting has now entered the social media space and the companies that can develop and launch to the market will have a huge advantage and possibly be able to capture the market if their product is unique and simple.

Time to upgrade

July 25, 2009 - 12:33 pm - Posted by Sherri R

The war over laptop sales is heating up as Apple filed suit against Microsoft complaining their ads are misleading. The PC ads give a person $1500 to buy a new laptop that they want and they look at Macs but keep complaining that for the money the features that they get with a Mac is not near what you would get with a laptop. This new battleground is heating up because the sales of PC’s are slowing down and laptops are increasing. People want the ability to be mobile and having a new laptop is appealing to the younger crowds as well the baby boomer age because they are seeing the freedom of staying connected on the go.

Buying new memory

April 23, 2009 - 9:49 pm - Posted by Sherri R

For our Daughters birthday we got her a simple digital camcorder that she could use to capture clips with her friends. It has turned out to be one of the best presents that we have gotten because her and her friends have gotten creative and are now shooting their own music videos. With the upgraded micro sd card which now holds about three hours of video they lip sync to some of the more popular songs like Poker Face from Lady Gaga which is quite good and funny at the same time. They are hoping to get a few of these uploade to Youtube so that they can share with all their friends at school.

Dolphins: America's New Soldiers

February 28, 2009 - 9:44 pm - Posted by Sherri R

Its not considered breaking news now, but at one time it was top secret information that dolphins were assisting the U.S. military. A lot of talk has been made over the dogs in Veitnam and all the service they provided for our country. Medals have been awarded to the dogs that have served in war time and I do think they deserve them. They have stood tall with America and the dog handlers that took care of these war dogs had a tremendous amount of respect for them. I’m not sure if a dolphin handler gets the chance to bond with their partner as much as the dog handlers did. I’m sure they are some stories of death that dolphins gave for this country and they have played a big part in helping us at sea.

The U.S. Navy has dedicated a lot of time and energy into training these dolphins to help serve in war time and in peace times. Dolphins can’t help soldiers on the battlefield, but when the battlefield moves below the surfaces of the oceans, then the dolphin becomes a good soldier for America. It’s really incredible to think about all of the things we have used dolphins for in the past and what possibilites these beautiful animals can provide for us in the future. I’m not sure if anyone knows just how many dolphins our government or the military have in their possession for tasks at seas, but I’m sure the slogan would read something like “We are looking for a few good marine mammals”. These soldiers might not be new, but dolphins may play a crucial part in our peace efforts and these may just be the new soldiers of America.

America’s ability to think outside the box has allowed us to stay ahead of other countries in a military mind game. American troops now have the newest and latest tech gadgets to assist them in their duties. The unmaned drones that fly over battlefields and in hostile regions are great for taking pictures, recording information, and laying down firepower when needed. This type of technology will save lives for our troops now and in the future. The use of animals like dogs and dolphins only makes us that much stronger as a military nation that seeks world wide peace someday.

Going wireless with speed

January 19, 2009 - 9:19 pm - Posted by Sherri R

What is your wireless connection could cover a few miles instead of a few feet? What if it were faster than wired broadband? The technology may be closer than you think. With the introduction and deployment of WiMax that idea is now a reality. It is basically Wi-Fi on steroids with faster and farther connections. You will also want to check the latest memory upgrade for your PC that will connected to the WiFi connection because this may cause some slow down in your transfer rate. Currently there is only one small installation in the US with the majority being in the Asian Continents.
