Make Someone’s Holiday Special by Donating

The temperature outside is dropping and the trees are bare, which means winter has arrived and the holidays are just around the corner. You’ll be busy shopping for gifts, decorating, and enjoying time with friends and family. It’s also the time of year that people in need greatly benefit from donations. Families with low incomes, hospitalized children, and women in shelters all benefit greatly from donated items, be they clothing, toys, books, games, or food. Putting together a selection of items to donate to individuals, families, or organizations in need is a great way to experience that special feeling that comes with giving during the holidays.

It’s also a great activity to do with your family or friends, and it doesn’t take a lot of extra time, money, or effort. Stores and libraries in your area are a great place to find organizations that are seeking donations. Many of these places have boxes set aside for customers to leave their donations of food or mittens. Local hospitals are always pleased to receive donations, too. Try calling a few in your area and see what they have the greatest need for.

Animal shelters love to receive donations as well; it takes a lot of money to feed and care for a shelter-full of animals! A bag of dog food or a few blankets can make more than a few tails wag. A donation of toys, books, or bath items can greatly improve the spirits of women and children in shelters for victims of abuse. There are literally hundreds of worthy causes that your donations would greatly benefit from. So dig out those canned goods you aren’t really using, that Baby Phat jacket that doesn’t fit anymore, or pick up a few pairs of mittens, and start gifting! You may not know the person you’re giving to, but your gift will be greatly appreciated.
